an approved hourly kilometer counter, also called a taximeter;
an approved parking meter, if the taximeter does not have this function; one luminous;

The taximeter
The taximeter, or hour kilometric meter, allows you to measure the amount to pay for trips based on the distance traveled and the time spent in the vehicle. The main suppliers of taximeters are the companies ATA, Gamma and HALE. Tunbridge Wells Taxi offer different more or less elaborate models: taking into account new parameters, robustness, design, weight, ergonomics, etc. There are even certain models which are not attached to the dashboard but which are integrated into the interior rear-view mirror. It’s up to you to choose the one that suits you best, keeping in mind that it must be approved in any case.
The plaque
To be able to carry out his taxi activity, the driver must have a parking authorization (ADS), which includes a plate on which the ADS number and his municipality are displayed. It is riveted inside the vehicle, on the right front wing. Of course, it must be visible from the outside! To find out more about the plate and the taxi license attached to it, consult our article on the subject!
The bright
The light is this exterior light device which bears the words “taxi”. It is green when the taxi is free, therefore ready to welcome a customer, and turns red when it is busy. It must be connected to the taximeter. You can opt for a fixed light or a detachable light and add accessories to indicate your municipality and your telephone number. Where to buy your illuminated taxi? The most classic solution is to choose a light from the same brand as your taximeter, Taxi in Tunbridge Wells but you can also choose a universal light, like those from the StarBlast brand. Otherwise, it’s up to you to choose the device that appeals to you the most aesthetically: because its primary functionality is to be visible!
The biller and the printer
The taxi must necessarily house a small printer (or biller) to produce receipts for fares. Here again, there are different models which offer, for example, the possibility of personalizing tickets (logo, contact information, font, etc.).
The electronic payment terminal (TPE)
Since, taxi drivers have been required to offer their customers payment by credit card, under penalty of receiving a fine of up to $1583.09. Their vehicle must therefore contain an electronic payment terminal, known as TPE. It must be clearly visible to the customer.
There are two types of TPE:
fixed TPEs, which are connected to the mains and generally use a telephone line or ADSL;
mobile TPEs, which have a battery and use the 3G network – they generally work with a smartphone application.
Two solutions are available to you for purchasing a TPE: rental or purchase. However, rental can be expensive and today, certain models – notably mobile SMEs – offer very economical solutions. You can turn to the following brands: Sum-up, istle and Smile Pay. Note that some TPEs directly integrate a printer.
